Week 10 Part 1

Adding human interests to ones business social media can really do a lot for a company in my opinion. First, I'd have to say that it really gives that business page a genuine feeling. Like what I mean is, that the page is being ran by an actual person and not a computer. The one posting all these things actually has feeling and cares.

Also, when you add human interest it may really set yourself apart from the "other guys". Your followers may engaged more with your content if you're posting more than just the norm. Maybe your competition doesn't do anything special like that, maybe their page is just flat out boring.

And I'm going to be completely honest here, I never thought of going over and beyond about posting extra stuff on my business pages, but now I am going to make that extra step. We'll see how it works out I suppose.

Week 9

When trying to find connections and people to follow on Twitter, the search word that I started with was "barber". Once I saw that the results were of people I didn't know is when I changed my search word to Oceanside. I figured there is a ton of marketing to do for Clipper Junkies and I might as well and try to set up this platform similar to Facebook by following the city's pages.

I also ended up following some clipper companies. Hey, maybe they'll tweet when they have sales. Who knows but it was worth a shot. With that said, this brings me to my lists on twitter. I made two, one for marketing and one for companies. The one for marketing is named for the obvious reason and the other, I just meant like barbering companies. I guess these two list will help me to just go straight to one or the when I need to complete a certain task.

Week 8 Part 2

I would have to agree with the saying that "some businesses work best when they have visual support". Some of those business would be: barbering, hair coloring, nails, lawn care, artwork, the list could go on. How else would people trust that you know what you're doing with people's hair or nails? Picture's are a perfect way! I mean, if you had a restaurant you could certainly take a picture of the food, but a picture wont tell you how it tastes and that's what important.

In my profession, which is barbering, visual media totally works for us. Like I said above, pictures are a way for people to see that you really do know how to cut hair. Let's examine a few other barbering business and see if they even use pictures to their advantage.

Short Cuts Barbershop-Oceanside

Yeah, they rarely post anything on Instagram. Which really sucks for them because they have 1,596 followers! That's a ton of people to be showing off your work to. If it were me I wouldn't let that opportunity pass me by. As far as hashtags go, they use some, not a ton, but some. Again, if it were me, I'd use more. I don't know, their Instagram didn't wow me at all.

The Gentlemen's Den-Oceanside

Now this barbershop knows how to use Instagram to their benefit. They post almost every day and their posts are interesting! They have 1,664 followers and all of these followers are seeing great photos that are not just pictures of people's cuts. This I could definitely improve on for my own barbershop's Instagram. But in my opinion they also don't have a very good hashtag game. They only use a few.

Oceanside Fades-Oceanside

Now these guys have 1,209 followers who are not seeing any posts from them. Come on guys! I wish I had that many followers! These guys have so much potential but they're just not using this great platform to show off any of their work. And like the other's, their hashtags suck!

American Deluxe Barbershop-Oceanside, Encinitas

This shop really knows how to use Instagram to their advantage. They always have interesting posts and to be honest I use a lot of their same hashtags. Actually, let me get real honest up in here, I learned everything that I know from this shop. They currently have 1,116 followers and I only see that number rising. Way to go American Deluxe!

Week 8 Part 1

Hey guys! Sorry my post is late, I have been battling a nasty cold for days now and I am not getting any better. But I knew I needed to push trough it and try and get this assignment finished.

For Clipper Junkies, we use Facebook and Instagram as our social media, marketing platforms. Instagram I feel is a great way to get your work discovered from people all over the world by using hashtags. We try and use all the hashtags possible that speak "barbering" to those who are looking for it. Currently, we have 141 followers and I would like to make that number grow. I am going to set a goal of 160 followers by the end of November. Hopefully we'll get there. I also feel that it is very important to return the favor when a business decides to follow you; networking is very important for success.

As far as Facebook goes, I feel as if that platform is great for completely different reasons than Instagram is. Facebook to me is more of an advertising platform. I always run ads, offers and events on Facebook. You can't do that with Instagram, you can only run an ad. With Facebook we currently have 150 likes and 160 followers. I know Facebook has helped the growth of our business immensely because when asking our new clients where they head about us, like 90% of them say Facebook. And I am perfectly fine with advertising on Facebook. They are cheap and effective.

Week 7 Part 2

I must say, this is the first time I have ever scheduled a post and I can say right off of the bat, I LOVE IT!!! Oh. My. Gosh! Now I don't have to worry about posting if all I want is to post the minimum for the day. Yeah buddy!!! I love learning new things especially useful things.

Anyway, I always like to use quotes or memes as filler posts when I don't have enough client photos. Sometimes I cant get a ton of client pictures for various reasons. It gets busy, they don't want their picture on social media... all kinds of different reasons. They say you should post at least once a day to keep your followers engaged. I try to post once a day but honestly, I end up only posting 4 to 5 days a week. But, now that I know how easy this tool was to use, I should have no excuses as to why I don't post every day.

Week 7 Part 1

So for this weeks assignment in my CSIT-155 class I had to do some work with Facebook which included "liking" other pages. And not just any pages, but rather pages that you think may possible help your business. I decided to target El Camino High School as my main focus with a few others.

I "liked":

  • El Camino High School Wildcat Foundation
  • El Camino Wildcats Baseball
  • ECHS Golden Pride Instrumental/Music
  • Oceanside Unified School District
  • Inside Oceanside
  • Oceanside Sunset Market Street Fair
  • Killer Pizza From Mars
My first three likes for the high school are in hopes that I can build a clientele on high school kids who always want a fresh cut. There are pretty boys out there ya know, lol. No seriously though, when I was in high school boys actually cared what they looked like for school, so hopefully it's still the same.

My choice to like Oceanside School District is to one day really target all the schools. Maybe with fundraising or in another way. I'm still working on how to make them one of my main sources of clientele. Any ideas? Feel free to leave a comment.

Inside Oceanside and Oceanside Sunset Market Street Fair don't need too much of an explanation. Both of these pages are great for networking and I feel really advance your business if the right people see your posts. Along with the high school, I will really be working on what the best way will be to get my information out there with these two pages. These two pages may be the jackpot!

And last but not least, Killer Pizza From Mars. Why a pizza place you ask? Well, they are like two doors down from my shop. And who hasn't heard of Killer Pizza? I feel that this page can really help me since we are located about 50 from each other. Maybe I can make really good friends with the owner or manager and somehow advertise my business in their business. Who knows💁 but what's it gonna hurt?

So thus far, these pages are my beginning plan. Hopefully the ball will start rolling sooner than later and I can extend my clientele. I'll keep y'all updated.
